A Long Way Down review

Posted : 9 years, 5 months ago on 19 October 2014 11:00 (A review of A Long Way Down)

Amiable and satisfying little black comedy about four people meeting at a crux point in their lives. Good performances make something like this work and warming up to this cast was not a problem.

Defiance review

New review. On par with Battlestar Galactica. Great characters and stories, plots and contrivances. Just a spectacular effort. Credits to the writers, actors, and directors.

Continuum review

Posted : 9 years, 7 months ago on 8 August 2014 05:44 (A review of Continuum)

Very interesting concept. Even with the story stretched out, they manage to make protagonists and antagonists that you're both for and against. Good characters and actors keep you interested and good twists and turns.

He can turn depressing and pathetic into some funny bits, but overall the show is depressing and pathetic.

Under the Skin review

Posted : 9 years, 8 months ago on 20 July 2014 04:48 (A review of Under the Skin)

Exceptional film. Challenges audiences on every level. The deliberate movement of the narrative might make or break someone on the fence between loving this and hating it. The imagery is compelling and the sense of dread is palpable, cold, yet strangely alluring, keeping you interested in the protagonists' plight. Something worth less than two hours of your time, if only to endure the experience and decide for yourself how it affects you.

Fantastic! A very powerful series. Season 2 opened with a bang! First season only 6 episodes. WELL worth watching!

The Legend of Bagger Vance review

Posted : 9 years, 10 months ago on 16 May 2014 06:00 (A review of The Legend of Bagger Vance)

I'm giving this a 9 if only to compare it to Field of Dreams, or Redford's The Natural as a reference to the inimitable game of golf.

Spiderman 2 review

Posted : 9 years, 11 months ago on 4 May 2014 01:42 (A review of Spiderman 2)

Probably the best No. 2 ever, and one of the best movies ever. In fact, if you watch 1 and 2, you'll see one of the best combinations of films ever. Spiderman 2 covers every bit of ground, and it makes no apologies. Best film ever!

Orange Is the New Black review

I have to say I'm once again totally impressed with Jenji Kohan. She makes a narrative really work, pulling you in to every character, making them all important. If Netflix doesn't bring us season 2 I will personally take an axe to all their servers and fuck them up, YO!!

The Score review

Posted : 10 years, 4 months ago on 30 November 2013 11:46 (A review of The Score)

Amiable heist flick truly made palpable by the cast. If you didn't know how the film would end by the half-way point, you haven't seen a lot of movies. Still, the narrative was tight and tense. Worth seeing as a good use of your time.
